Unit 15 website management

Unit 15 website
OF THE PROJECT:- website for student management system.
STATEMENT ABOUT THE PROBLEM:- Web development is a wide term that is related to
the activities developing some website for the internet or an intranet. This
may consist of web designing, server side or client side scripting,
configuration of the web server, business development of e-commerce and
development of the web content. For the larger organizations and businesses,
the web development groups consist of a large number of web developers. In case
of smaller organizations, there may be a requirement of a single webmaster or
graphic designer.

Travel and tourism Management

Web development may vary from development of the simple plain text of the
single page to highly multifaceted web-based electronic businesses, social
networking and internet applications. Web development can also serve as a
collaborative initiative among the different departments. Web designing-
creating best web sites

Web designing refers to developing of good, creative and attractive web sites
through the process of planning, modeling, conceptualizing and executing of
electronic media content. It basically refers to creation of web sites which
are meant to present content including interfaces as well as interactive
features to the users in the shape of web pages. All these elements could be
placed on the web page in forms, text, bit-mapped images through the use of
XML, XHTML and HTML tags. If you want to develop a new web site of your own or
just need to have a new look to your old and dull websites then you must hire
good web designers who would make your web site attractive and more appealing.

We have choosen this project because educational institutes want to impart
knowledge to their students through a medium which can make them accessible
with variety of knowledge with just a mouse click. This requirement has been
fulfilled by the internet which offers various sites. Any type of information
regarding notices, exam dates, can be easily accessed by opening the particular

SCOPE OF THE PROJECT:- Web designing is very essential and important part of IT
industry. There are various skills required while designing a web site. A web
designer must have proper knowledge of the contents which are required to be
covered in the website. Graphics i.e. colors, patterns, textures and effects
should always been clear and effective. There should not be a hint of
impatience in your design. There should be proper symmetry between curves,
distances between buttons, links etc. A person should have complete knowledge
of CSS and HTML. A web designing has very wide scope in IT industry. It is
basically dependent of the skills of the web designer. Conceptual designing
also plays an important role in designing a web site. Links help in increasing
the traffic for a web site.

A web designing is an art. It requires domain name registration, hosting,
proper layout and promotion. Every activity which is associated with the
designing of a website requires proper qualification and experience. Today
every small or big industry requires a media to catch the attention of the
proposed consumers. Similarly, educational institutes want to impart knowledge
to their students through a medium which can make them accessible with variety
of knowledge with just a mouse click. This requirement has been fulfilled by the
internet which offers various sites. Any type of information can be easily
accessed by opening the particular site. All these have made web designing
industry more popular and it has further increased its scope. There is no field
left where internet has not made its entry. Support of web designing industry
in providing every bit of service right from content writing to site launching
have been very advantageous to the various customers. Web designing industry
has earned a good name in past few decades. The needs of business, industry,
education and public sector have made very good use of web services. There are
more jobs available for web designers than before. There are lots of companies
who have earned a good name in providing web designing services to people. They
employ professional who have good knowledge and experience. Lots of new
companies have been coming up. Ecommerce solutions which are part of web
designing have made shopping on net easy and convenient. Lots of solutions have
been provided by the web designers to the people who want details about any
subject. There is no field left on which you cannot easily find a good piece of
knowledge. It is no child play to be able to adjust in today’s world of
competition. There is great need of the experience and professionalism that can
make web designing successful. If you provide good services to what your
customer demand you can easily survive the market conditions. Effective
presentation of website and proper promotion are the key things which are required
to make website more accessible. Web designing industry is likely to grow at
more speed in near future. That time in not far enough, when this industry will
be the number one industry of every nation.

METHODOLOGY:- This paper outlines a methodology for developing Web Design
Patterns and selecting patterns for a pattern library. We developed this
methodology in order to create the website called ibranch.

Executive Summary
This paper describes the methodology we developed as part of a project to build
a Website called ibranch for students and teachers at the
Nri institute of information science and technology. We developed a consistent
process for developing slides. We design pages to improve upon some of the
issues identified in our analysis of existing collections1 and help our target
users solve design problems.

Business strategy assignment help

Web Sites require a combination of technologies which help in create web pages.
In this article, we will discuss some of the technologies which are used to
create web sites and their contribution to web design. As most of the
technologies are moving ahead with new versions, we will discuss the basic
features of the software and not the version which is currently active: 1.
HTML: Hyper Text Markup Language or HTML provides the basis for creation of web
pages. It creates text files which are readable by web browsers. HTML files are
very versatile as they permit delivering of image files, content and form
fields to online users. HTML can be created either by directing the code
directly in Notepad or with the help of HTML editors which are used extensively
by web designers. Some of the most popular HTML editors are Dreamweaver and
Frontpage. Most web sites use HTML and you can determine this by seeing the
file extension which would be .html .

2. Photoshop: Though Photoshop is software which is used for image editing, it
is fitting to mention it here since most images posted online are edited with
the help of Photoshop. Photoshop provides tools to manipulate the images of a
web site and sometimes designers may even create the basic web site layout in
Photoshop and on approval from the customer go ahead and convert it to HTML.
Photoshop is a very important tool in the web designers’ arsenal!

3. Flash: Interactive web pages which have an interesting presentation form are
created with the help of Flash. Though flash has been around for some years
now, it is only recently that many web sites have started using it extensively.
The reason behind this is quite simple…increase in the availability of
bandwidth across the world has resulted in people being able to access flash
web sites quite easily. Flash files tend to be slightly heavier that the
regular HTML files due to the code it contains for interactive elements and
thus is resource hungry. However, the impact of a flash web site is a lot more
than HTML web site and is used to create a lasting impression on online users.

4. AJAX: AJAX is a very new entrant in the user interface technology space and
some of the leading web sites such as Google have started using it to provide
users a better level of interactivity and customization of their display
options. AJAX provides the users an ability to mould the interface and have
only those items on display which they need. AJAX is sure to become a bit more
commonplace in the near future as more and more web designers realize its

5. CSS: Though CSS is not a separate technology, it is worth a mention since it
helps creates uniformity across the entire web site. Cascading Style Sheet or
CSS allows web designers to create the rules of display in a central file which
is then implemented through out the web site. A web site can have more than one
CSS. Some of the things which a CSS files helps in maintaining are font styles
and colors, navigation bar, footer and sometimes even some of the graphics on
the web site.

6. JavaScript: Javascript has very little to do with Java. Javascript provides
certain user interface controls which can make a web site more interesting as
well as add user friendly features on the web site. Mouse roll overs,
navigation drop downs and validation of web forms are some of the most
practical uses of JavaScript. There are many other user interface technologies
which can be put to use by designers. Some are well known and some might be a
new path breaking technology. The above technologies are the ones which are the
most common and well known in the community.

Designers are rarely free to do whatever comes to mind. Just as designers
consider their users’ needs for specific information, they must also consider
any constraints imposed on them by their users’ hardware, software, and speed
of connection to the Internet. Today, a single operating system (Microsoft’s
XP) dominates personal computer market. Similarly, only two Web site browsers
are favored by the vast majority of users. More than ninety percent of users
have their monitors set to 1024×768, 800×600 or 1280×1024 pixel resolution. And
while most users at work have high-speed Internet access, many home users still
connect using dial-up.

Within the constraints of available time, money, and resources, it is usually
impossible to design for all users. Therefore, identify the hardware and
software used by your primary and secondary audiences and design to maximize
the effectiveness of your Web site.

Guideline: Design the Web site so it will work well with the most popular
operating systems. Comments: Designers should attempt to accommodate ninety-five
percent of all users. Ensure that all testing of a Web site is done using the
most common operating systems. Currently, the most popular operating system is
Microsoft’s Windows XP which has over 80 of the market share. The second is
Windows 2000 (eight percent), then Windows 98 (five percent), and the Macintosh
(three percent). Designers should consult one of the several sources that
maintain current figures to help ensure that they are designing to accommodate
as many users as possible. Sources: www.thecounter.com., 2006; Jupitermedia
Corporation, 2003.

Design for Commonly Used Screen Resolutions

Guideline: Design for monitors with the screen resolution set at 1024×768
pixels. Comments: Designers should attempt to accommodate ninety-five percent
of all users. As of June 2006, 56% of users have their screen resolution set at
1024×768. By designing for 1024×768, designers will accommodate this most
common resolution, as well as those at any higher resolution. Ensure that all
testing of Web sites is done using the most common screen resolutions.Sources:
www.thecounter.com., 2006; Evans, 1998; Jupitermedia Corporation, 2003.

Guideline: Design for the connection speed of most users.

Comments: At work in the United States, at least eighty-nine percent of users
have high speed access, while less than eleven percent are using fifty-six K
(or slower) modems. At home, more than two-thirds of users have high speed
access. These figures are continually changing. Designers should consult one of
the several sources that maintain current figures. Sources: Nielsen/NetRatings,
2006; Forrester Research, 2001; Nielsen, 1999a; Web Site Optimization, 2003.
