Unit Learning Outcomes:
LO4: Be able to use appraisal techniques to analyse and improve operational performance
Assignment Brief:
You are required to investigate and explain different performance appraisal techniques that could be applied in the context of the new concept you suggested in your first assignment. In addition to this, you should also discuss the alternative approaches that could be adopted to measure the performance of a product or service in a hospitality organisation.
Submission Format:
This assignment must be submitted in the form of an Informal report of no more than2500 words. This should include a content page, appropriate paragraphs, and a bibliography. All discussions mustbe supported with existing research and theories, and all sources must be referenced accordingly using the Harvard referencing system. You must include a full bibliography.

Your report must be submitted via Moodle-TurnItIn only.
Key Task:
4.1 apply different performance measures and appraisal techniques to individual aspects of hospitalityoperations, the product and the whole operation1.      Identify a variety of performance measures that could be used to assess both the product/service and the overall operation. You should mention how you would assess performance against for example, operational factors, financial considerations, industry norms and other qualitative and quantitative data.

2.      Explain what are the variety of approaches you would use to assess whether your product/service is performing within the business?

3.      Evaluate at least two different types of both qualitative and quantitative appraisal techniques that you have identified in answering task1.

4.      Once appraised, what factors would you consider when planning for the future of your product/service?

4.3 apply approaches to business analysis, evaluation and planning appropriate to hospitality operations, making proposals for action
Grade Criteria at a Merit –In addition to the above Pass Criteria:
M1 - Identify and apply strategies to find appropriate solutions - effective judgements have been made about the variety of appraisal techniques available to businesses in general
M2 - Select/design and apply appropriate methods/techniques – relevant appraisal techniques have been selected in the context of the new concept developed in assignment 1
M3 - Present and communicate appropriate findings - the appropriate structure and format has been used as outlined in the guidance provided
Grade Criteria at a Distinction - In addition to the above Merit criteria:
D1 - Use critical reflection to evaluate own work and justify valid conclusions–selected appraisal techniques have been critically investigated and choices have been justified
D2 - Take responsibility for managing and organising activities - substantial investigations into various appraisal techniques have been done, prior to choosing specific techniques in the context of new concept development
D3 - Demonstrate convergent/lateral/creative thinking - creative thinking has taken place in presenting the different techniques in the context of the chosen organisation
