Assessment Type: Literature Review – individual assessment – 1000 - 1500 word report.

Purpose: The purpose of this assessment is to build on the research and evaluation skills and techniques developed with Assessments 1 and 2, and the critical thinking skills discussed and practiced in class, to develop a literature review of the article studied in Assessment 2. This assessment will help also students to develop and improve writing and information literacy skills. This assessment contributes specifically to Learning Outcomes a, c and e. Value: 30% Due Date: Week 9 - 5:00 pm of the Friday of Week 9. Submission: Upload a soft copy - Word .doc or .docx to Moodle and Turnitin. Topic: A Literature Review of an article using the trimester’s given article Task Details: The literature review gives students the opportunity to study an assigned topic in depth. It requires students to find relevant sources of information that will enable them to write the individual from an informed point of view. This will help students to develop writing and information literacy skills. Students should find a minimum of 4 additional sources, at least one of which must be a peer reviewed article, relating to the topic of the article used in class (the theme article). The assessment will require students to identify 2 or 3 main points in the article and find a minimum of 4 sources which either agree or disagree with those points - brief explanation /discussion as to how the theme article and the identified sources either agree or disagree. Students should include a brief evaluation of the sources they are using (as they did in Assessment 1 Annotated Bibliography) in their discussion. Students should include a brief conclusion as to whether the main points of the article can be considered valid. Using the annotated bibliography from Assessment 1 may be a good place to start finding the additional sources. It is important to note that the purpose of this assignment is to review the article given and how it fits within overall research and discussion on the topic. More detail about the assessment will be provided in class and via Moodle.
