Select an area of social work practice that interests you (e.g., mental health, addictions, working with refugees, working with children, working with youth, advocacy, or community development). Describe your personal framework in working with the trauma in this context/area. Consider the ways that your beliefs, values, assumptions, and knowledge guide how you will work with individuals, groups, and/or communities in this context/area. You may use example(s) such as doing a piece of art, making a video, organizing a group, or finding other way to illustrate your personal framework in working with the particular theme you have chosen.

Your assignment should demonstrate that your practice is informed by theories and/or research evidence and that you examine your values, beliefs, and assumptions in a critical way.

Also justify why you choosed  the framework and how you will work with it.

Appropriate Referencing

Referencing and bibliography Referencing  demonstrates  your  use  of  literature  sources,  thereby  maintaining  the  integrity  of  your writing  and  allowing  the reader  to locate  a source.   While  there  are various  referencing  systems,  the APA referencing Systems is adopted in this topic.

It is also  important  that  students  reference  material  appropriately   in their  assignments.   There  are three potential “pitfalls” that students can experience in this regard and which you should endeavour to avoid by following the guidelines below.

Avoid overuse of websites as references – There are many websites about trauma and resilience, some of which  are  very  good,  and  others  that  are  not,  in  terms  of the  quality  of the  information included.  Despite  the  appeal  of  websites  as “quick  and  easy”  ways  to research  ideas,  they should not be used as a significant part of your referencing for assignments done in university studies.   Your reading and research for ideas to include in your assignments should focus on recognised  academic  or  professional  literature,  such  as  that  included  in  the  topic’s  selected readings or recommended texts.

Avoid references from “popular”  literature  – Similar to the point above, there are many books written  about  trauma and resilience  for  the  general  public.    These might include self-help books, personal stories and material written for a general target group.  Much can be learned from the stories of those who have experienced trauma.  However, for the purposes of university learning, writing and assessment, you should focus your literature research on academic and professional literature.

Do not use the topic handout materials or powerpoints as a reference – The topic handouts or powerpoints are provided as a general resource to assist students during presentations.   This material will not be accepted as a reference in essays.  You must cite the original source of any referenced ideas in your essays. Use of the handout material as a reference will result in a lower grade being awarded to the assignment involved.

In addition, if writing about real persons in an assignment, no actual names or identifying information are to be included in your assignments.  In any assignment that deals with case situations,  you  should  include  a  footnote  indicating  that  identifying  information  has  been removed or changed.
