EDEXCEL BTEC HND Business (Management)

Unit 13: PPD

Scenario or vocational context:

There is an increasing emphasis on the need for us to keep up to date and current in today’s rapidly changing business environment. Many organisations require their employees to create and maintain a plan of continuing personal and professional development that is reviewed and shared regularly. It also demonstrates the individual’s ability to take responsibility for their own development and it shows their commitment to continuous performance improvement.

Your existing qualifications, past employment and personal experiences and current level of study mean that you intend to improve your personal as well as professional skills. In preparation for this you wish to enhance your prospects for success by further development of your own and professional skills.

You plan to do this by evaluating the approaches to self-managed learning. You will then undertake a personal assessment of your skills and construct and implement a personal development plan. You must file all of this information for future reference, either as an electronic or hard copy. As this information is important and will be accessed, as your future career progresses it must be carefully and systematically organised.

Task 1

You must begin the file by preparing detailed notes that:
·         Evaluate approaches to self-managed learning (1.1)

·         Evaluate the benefits of self-managed learning to the individual and organisation (1.3)

Task 2

The second section of the file covers a personal assessment of your skills and development plan. You must:

·         Evaluate your own current skills and competencies against professional standards and organisational objectives (2.1)

·         Identify own development needs and the activities required to meet them (2.2)

·         Identify development opportunities to meet current and future defined needs (2.3)

·         Devise a personal and professional development plan based on your identified needs (2.4)

·         Discuss the processes and activities required to implement the development plan, including a time management strategy (3.1)

Task 3

You are now in the position to be able to implement your plan. As part of the implementation you should document all that happens while you are implementing the plan. You must:

·         Undertake and document development activities as planned (3.2)

Task 4

It is important to learn from the progress you have made in order to plan further developments. In this section of the file you must:

·         Reflect critically on your learning against the original aims and objectives set in the development plan (3.3)

·         Update the development plan based on feedback and the outcomes from your evaluation (3.4)

·         Evaluate how effective your time management has been during the course of implementing this plan and use effective time management activities (4.3)

TASK 5

Finally, in this section you need to write a reflective report on how you were able to:
·         Select solutions to work-based problems (4.1)

·         Communicate in a variety of styles and appropriate manner at various levels (4.2)

·         Propose ways in which lifelong learning in personal and professional context could be encouraged (1.2)
