Why a BTEC HND is a great alternative to university

These distance learning courses give students the flexibility to maintain a job or family whilst gaining a fully accredited higher education qualification. It also enables students to study from home without having to relocate or travel to a college/university.
What will I learn?
At Oxford College we offer 14 different subjects at BTEC HND level from Animal Psychology to Sports Science as well as Health & Social Care, Business Studies, Law and Psychology.
These 2 year courses are broken down into 16 units of work each requiring around 60 hours of study time. A coursework assignment is completed at the end of each unit and sent to your tutor for marking. The coursework marks will go toward forming your final grade.
The courses also carry 240 UCAS points for anyone wishing to top up to a full honours degree with a third year at university.
How does a distance learning BTEC HND course work?
You will have a maximum of 2 years to complete your studies. You will be assigned your personal tutor for the duration of the course and they are available to answer your questions and mark your assignments.
All tutors are qualified in the subject and in distance learning tutoring and are educated to at least Masters level.
You will access your course materials online via the 'On Campus' area on our website. Your log in details will be sent to you once payment (or deposit payment) is made.
All coursework and tutor questions are uploaded via our tailor-made BTEC HND online system. As a student with Oxford College you will also have access to the forum and student chatroom.
A paper copy or Kindle version can be purchased during the enrolment process either online or over the telephone.
What costs are involved?

The cost of the 2 year course is £3500. This can be spread  over 18 months with our interest free instalment plan.
How do I know if a BTEC HND is right for me?
If you have previously studied at Level 3 (A Levels, Level 3 Diploma, NVQ3 or BTEC Level 3) then you will be eligible to start the course at any time.
If you wish to continue into higher education without the costs and geographical restrictions of going to university, then the BTEC HND would be ideal for you.
You will also need to be organised with your time and committed to the level of study required at Level 5.
What can I do with my BTEC HND?
A BTEC HND is a Level 5 Higher National Diploma and our BTEC HNDs are accredited by the international exam board Edexcel.
The course is the equivalent of a Foundation degree i.e. the first 2 years of university.
We can provide you with a list of associations and organisations that recognise the BTEC HND as well as a list of universities that will accept students into the third year of a full honours degree course.
Having this qualification will enhance your career prospects, allow you to work as a practitioner in certain fields or enable you to enter onto an honours degree in the third year.
